Cleaning best practiceDrain, remove sludge, scrub every surface, disinfect, rinse and document — and inspect the lid and vents, because contamination usually enters from above.
Sediment settles at the bottom of a domestic tank and biofilm forms on the walls. Neither is removed by draining alone, which is why a rinse-and-refill is not a clean.
How it is done
- Isolate and drain fully, then remove sludge by hand.
- Scrub walls, base and baffles; disinfect at the correct contact time.
- Rinse until clear, and confirm before the supply is restored.
- Inspect the lid seal, the overflow and the vent screens.
Why it matters
A sealed, inspected tank stays clean far longer than a scrubbed but open one. Most recontamination arrives through a missing screen or a broken lid rather than from the water itself.
Asked about this
Commonly twice a year in UAE residential use, and municipal requirements can apply to buildings. Household size and tank material both affect the interval.
Only once the disinfectant has been flushed and the water runs clear. We confirm that before handing the supply back.
