Painting a Room Before a Baby Arrives

The timing of a nursery repaint matters more than the product, though both are worth getting right.

What matters, and why.

Low-VOC products

Water-borne systems with low volatile emissions are now equal to older solvent paints for most interior work, and the difference in a sealed home is real.

Timing

Paint well ahead — several weeks rather than several days — and ventilate throughout. Emissions fall sharply over the first fortnight.

Preparation still decides quality

Crack filling, sanding and dust removal determine durability far more than the paint does. A nursery repainted over dust will need doing again.

Afterwards

A full clean once the paint has cured, including the floor, before any furniture returns to the room.

If this is something you would rather hand over, our non-toxic deep cleaning is scoped at an inspection and confirmed in writing before any work begins. We will also tell you when a job does not need us.

Questions

Answered plainly.

Ventilate for at least a week where you can. Low-VOC shortens it but does not eliminate the wait.

It avoids paint emissions but adhesive has its own. On an external wall it also traps moisture.

They are sequenced rather than combined — painting first, cure time, then the clean.
