Filters and grilles between services

The short answer

Return-air filters and grilles collect the dust the system pulls from the room, and cleaning them monthly does more for air quality than any air freshener.

An air conditioner moves the room's entire air volume through a filter many times a day. When that filter is loaded, the system moves less air and the dust it does not catch keeps circulating.

How it is done

  • Check the return filter monthly; clean or replace as its type requires.
  • Wash grilles rather than wiping their visible face only.
  • Dry everything fully before it goes back: a damp filter grows what it catches.
  • Note any smell when the system starts, and report it.

Why it matters

It is the cheapest maintenance in a UAE home and the one most closely connected to how the air actually feels in a sealed apartment.

questions

Asked about this

No. The filter is the first barrier; ducts are the pathway behind it. Clean filters slow duct fouling but do not reverse it.

Usually microbial growth on the coil or in the condensate tray. It is worth inspecting rather than masking.
