How to tell whether a clean was actually done

The short answer

Check the edges and the hidden faces — cupboard interiors, behind appliances, window tracks, grille louvres — and ask for photographs of them.

Judging a clean by how the middle of the room looks rewards speed. The reliable test is a short list of places that only get done deliberately.

How it is done

  • Run a finger along the top of a door frame and a skirting board.
  • Open the cupboard under the sink and the one above the hob.
  • Look into a window track and along a shower screen seal.
  • Check the AC return grille louvres, not just its face.

Why it matters

These are the same points a letting agent inspects, which is why they are worth checking after any clean rather than only at handover.

Asked about this

Ideally yes. Anything missed is a five-minute fix on the day and a scheduling problem a week later.

Say so. Any serious contractor would rather return and correct it than have it noticed by an inspector later.
