UAE supply water is mineral-rich, so scale builds on glass, taps and sanitary ware quickly; frequency of treatment matters more than product strength.
Desalinated and blended supply across much of the UAE carries enough dissolved mineral that anything left to dry on a surface leaves a deposit. On shower glass that deposit builds into a film, and given long enough it etches the glass permanently.
The fix is not a stronger chemical. It is treating scale before it hardens, drying surfaces after use, and in some cases a protective coating that keeps water beading rather than sheeting.
What to check
- Treat scale early with a descaler made for the surface, never an abrasive pad
- Keep acidic descalers away from marble, travertine and limestone entirely
- A squeegee after each shower does more than any monthly deep clean
- Hydrophobic coatings reduce the work; they do not remove it
- Kettles, mixers and shower heads scale from the inside as well
Asked about this
Prolonged scale can etch the glass itself. Professional polishing sometimes improves it; replacement is occasionally the honest answer.
It reduces the mineral load reaching the fittings, which reduces scaling. It is a plumbing installation rather than a cleaning service.
On glass and ceramic, in moderation. On marble or natural stone it etches the surface, and the damage is physical rather than a stain.
