Mould & Humidity

Bathroom Grout, Silicone and Persistent Damp

The bathroom is where mould appears first because it is the wettest room with the weakest ventilation.

What matters, and why.

Grout versus silicone

Grout that is dirty scrubs clean. Grout that is stained through needs recolouring. Silicone with growth keyed into the bead needs replacing — treating it is time wasted.

The extract

A bathroom that stays damp for hours after a shower has a ventilation problem, not a cleaning problem. Clogged grilles and blocked ducting are the usual causes.

Sequence that works

Clean, then repair the seal, then fix the ventilation. In the other order you are cleaning something that is about to get wet again.

Daily habits

Squeegee the screen, run the extract for fifteen minutes after showering, and leave the door open. Those three do more than any product.

If this is something you would rather hand over, our mould treatment and deep cleaning is scoped at an inspection and confirmed in writing before any work begins. We will also tell you when a job does not need us.

Questions

Answered plainly.

Because the room is not drying. Ventilation is almost always the answer.

Recolouring is durable and looks new. Cleaning restores it to whatever the grout actually is.

Yes, on cement grout. Sealer slows staining; it does not prevent it.
