Standards, Claims and What to Ask a Contractor

Mould remediation is an area where confident language substitutes for capability more often than in most trades.

What matters, and why.

Ask about containment

Any contractor treating mould without isolating the area first is likely to spread it. Ask how they will contain the work before you ask about the product.

Ask about the moisture source

If the answer is only about the growth, the problem is coming back. A serious contractor asks about leaks and ventilation before quoting.

Ask what they will not do

Cavity work, structural drying and building reinstatement are separate disciplines. A contractor who claims all of it usually subcontracts it.

Our own position

We remove accessible growth, address accessible moisture sources, and document what we find. We are not an accredited remediation certifier and we will say so rather than imply otherwise.

If this is something you would rather hand over, our mould treatment and deep cleaning is scoped at an inspection and confirmed in writing before any work begins. We will also tell you when a job does not need us.

Questions

Answered plainly.

We provide a dated, photographed record of what was found and what was done. Formal certification is a separate accredited assessment.

Practice generally follows international guidance. Anyone citing a specific accreditation should be able to show it.

Ask for the licence number, the insurance certificate, and one example of a job where they told a client the work was not needed.
